Exchange Account Setup is Missing in Outlook 2016

Our organization recently upgraded from Office 2013 to Office 2016 version. Previously, we had a number of POP/IMAP and Exchange accounts that worked fine. However, after the upgrade, only POP and IMAP accounts are working. The Exchange accounts do not seem to work. In fact, I found that Exchange account setup option is missing in Outlook 2016.

After some research, I found that the Exchange Server accounts could be added to Outlook 2016 with the help of automatic account setup. Before doing so, make sure that the autodiscover is setup and is properly working.

MS Outlook 2016 is very different from Outlook 2013 as far as the setup of Exchange Server account is considered. Following are some important factors that an Outlook 2016 must keep in mind, while working with Exchange account:

• MS Outlook 2016 can only be configured with Exchange server with the help of AutoDiscover feature. Moreover, a DNS record must be configured for connecting with Outlook 2016 easily.
• Single Sign-On tool or Outlook profile helper cannot be used for creating a profile in Outlook 2016.
• Manual setup of Exchange account setup is missing in Outlook 2016 or we can say, it is not supported.
• Only Exchange Server 2010 and later versions are supported in Outlook 2016.

Procedure to Configure Exchange with Outlook 2016

1. Browse to Control Panel option and select it.
2. From the menu, select Mail option.

3. In the Mail Setup dialog box, select Show Profiles option.

5. Enter the Profile Name and click OK.

6. Select Email Account option. Enter the credentials required for setting up the account and click on Next.

7. Outlook will start the account configuration. You will get a security prompt, check the box Don’t ask me about this website again. Click on Allow option.
   
8. Outlook 2016 will discover the server settings and the configuration of the Exchange email account will be finished. Once the process is completed, you can view your Exchange profile in Outlook 2016.
