Procedure to Configure Outlook 2011 for Mac with Exchange Server 2013


I have recently come across many queries regarding the configuration of Outlook for Mac with Exchange Server 2013 being hosted in their organization. So here I am, with an article that will give you a complete step by step procedure for configuring Outlook 2011 with on premise Exchange Server.
There are two methods, by which a user can configure Outlook 2011 with Exchange Server 2013. They are:
  • Configuring Manually
  • Using Autodiscover

Manual Configuration of Outlook 2011 with Exchange 2013

Follow the below-mentioned steps to configure Outlook 2011 with Exchange Server 2013:
  1. Open Outlook for Mac and select Outlook option.
    Click Outlook
    1.  From the drop-down menu, select Preferences option.
      Select Preferences
    2. Select Accounts option under the Personal Settings section.
      Select Accounts
    3. Select Exchange Account option.

    4. Enter the following account information: Email Address: Enter the complete email address of your account
      Method: Select User Name and Password option.
      Username: Enter the complete email address of your account
      Password: Enter the password of your account
      Disable the option Configure automatically.
      Server: Enter the name of the Exchange Server 2013.

    5. Click on Add Account option to proceed.
    6. Wait until the yellow colored button at the top changes to green. Once it changes, it means that your account is successfully configured.

    Note: It might take a few minutes for the button to turn green. However, in case this does not happen for a long time, check the username and other details that you have entered.

    Configure Outlook 2011 with Exchange 2013 Using Autodiscover

    In case the Autodiscover feature is enabled for your Exchange Server 2013, you can configure Outlook 2011 for Mac with Exchange Server 2013 with the help of this feature. To do this, follow the below-mentioned steps:
    1. Open Outlook for Mac and select Outlook option.
      Click on Outlook
    2. From the drop-down menu, select Preferences option.
      Select Preferences
    3. Select Accounts option under the Personal Settings section.
      Click on Accounts
    4. Select Exchange Account option.
      Click on Exchange Account
    5. Enter the following account information: Email Address: Enter the complete email address of your account
      Method: Select User Name and Password option.
      Username: Enter the complete email address of your account
      Password: Enter the password of your account
      Enable the option Configure automatically.

    6. A security box will appear seeking the permission to allow the server to configure your settings. Click on Allow

    7. A new window will appear. In this window, in the Account Description box enter a different name and other fields.

    Once done with the above steps, Outlook will automatically synchronize with Exchange server.
